The Basis of Treatment

Ashtanga Hridayam. Ch.  -12. - couplet – 63.
Vikara naama kusalo na jihriyaal kadachana
Na hi sarva vikaaraanaam naamathosthi dhruvaasthithi hi’.
According to Ayurveda, there is no need to name every disease nor is it possible, because new diseases are appearing and known diseases are getting eradicated.
Ashtanga Hridayam. Ch. -12. -  couplet –  66  &  67.
Dooshyam desham balam kaalamanalam prakirthim vayah
Satwam saathmyam tadhaahaaramavasdhaascha pradhagwidhaah
Sookshmasookshmasameekshyaishaam doshoushadhaniroopaney
Yo varthathey chikithsyaayaam na sah skhalathi jaathujil’.
Any physician can treat a sick person if he is able to assess the following ten aspects,
01. Dooshyam. (dhathu and mala, which are vitiated)
02. Desam. (site and place of affection)
03. Balam. (strength of the disease and of the body)
04. Kaalam. (stage of the disease and season)
05. Analam. (digestive fire)
06. Prakirthi (individual’s constitution)
07. Vayah. (age of the individual and duration of disease)
08. Satwam. (stamina)
09. Saathmyam. (suitable)
10. Aahaaram. (diet).
Treatment of any such case, cannot be construed as research and conditions laid down for the same. As long as genuine medicines are used in good faith and recorded with dosages and timings and once success is achieved and patent is obtained as a token of appreciation, one should be permitted to publish the findings so that, others can try out the same and verify the regime.
In our country, Allopathic journals do not publish reports wherein alternate systems are used although the diagnosis and investigations are Allopathic.
I submitted the same to the Intellectual Property Office and obtained a Patent entitled “An unique combination of Ayurvedic Compounds for Correcting of a rare form of Mullerian Dysgenesis.” from the Government of India.
As this case happens to be one, for which Allopathy has no remedy, what is actually happening (due to the non-publication) is that the sufferer from this condition, is neither made aware of the availability of this unique medical option nor is able to avail the same (due to non-awareness) and get relieved by correction. The question is whether this state of affairs will get corrected, probably, only if, one of the close kith and kin of the people at the helm of affairs (who had read this article and did not take any worthwhile action), suffers from this problem. The medical intelligentia should rise from their bias towards alternate systems, to help the suffering humanity.
[In China, it has been reported that this problem has been solved by integrating allopathy and chinese medicine and every doctor must learn and know the two systems. (A doctor’s mindscapes).
In India, at Madras (now Chennai), there was a College of Integrated Medicine offering ‘G.C.I.M.’ Course (the writer is an alumnus of that institution) which equipped the individual with sufficient knowledge to practise both systems of medicine. Unfortunately, the men at the helm of affairs did not intelligently tackle the situation and raise the status of the course (to make it an ideal course) and took the easy way out by closing the College and the Course and reverting to a state, of each indigenous system, to develop on its own and herein can be seen another anomaly creation – no college for Ayurveda was created, while for Siddha and Unani, colleges were started (Siddha at Palayamkottai and Unani at Chennai). If only, they had done so, at that time, what is suggested now, we would have, probably, found many more remedies
